Born from a Need, SteelStack Solves Storage Issues for Manufacturers

SteelStack is designed and built for an industry they are a part of, born from a need the company’s founders experienced themselves.

“We had a plasma cutter at the time. Everything was stacked on 4x4s and in the hall. We weren’t really utilizing our vertical square footage,” Production Manager Coy King said.

The team began researching steel storage options on the market, and found few suitable options. They set out to answer a question: How do we make an innovative product without spending a fortune, while designing a product that makes sense for the typical sheet fabricator?

“So, Steel Stack kind of was born from an in-house need for it,” Production Manager Coy King said. “Then once we got something on paper, it looked like there may be a need for it outside our facility.”

The biggest challenge was coming up with a creative design for a traditionally stagnant product, and to generate ideas that would add incremental value. They thought about processes and the “little things” that would give customers flexibility in their environment.

They realized they could design something more effective and at a more efficient price point than traditional sheet metal storage products. This was an opportunity to provide an innovative product at a price point that would help other companies in the industry.

The result is a modular design that gives customers flexibility in their environment. The innovative Steel Stack cartridge design ensures manufacturers do not have to rely on a secondary piece of equipment during loading and unloading and minimizes the long-term risk of damaging bottom components.

The key attributes that SteelStack founders focused on include:

  • Made with over-engineered support structures

  • Offer innovative construction for efficiency and toughness

  • Modular systems to meet diverse space and needs

Most importantly, SteelStack is designed for customization so each company can make it their own---an attribute that makes it stand out from the competition.

The current market hasn’t allowed the founders to get every aspect they wanted honed - such as finding the right color powder coat. However, they were able to easily make adjustments from a raw material standpoint that didn’t affect the vision of the final end product.

“Steel Stack is a culmination of multiple people bringing valuable ideas and opportunities to the table. We’re a material handling company, this is a material handling product,” Brand Manager Scott Lawrence said. “We create intricate custom designs that allow customers to manage their flow and processes. We’re an epiphany of a company. It's kind of a simple no-brainer.”
